Los Angeles, USA
Kansas City bred, Brooklyn shaped, Los Angeles based musician Kevin Morby crafts deeply poetic vignettes of urban life, channelling the legendary likes of Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen.
Morby is also known for his work in the Babies (with Cassie Ramone of Vivian Girls) and folk group Woods, with who he recorded seven albums on Woodsist Records. Stepping out on his own, Morby’s 2013 debut solo work Harlem River is a homage to New York and 2014’s Still Life garnered critical accolades. His fourth album City Music, a kindred release to acclaimed 2016 album Singing Saw, is an ode to all cities sharing the universal language of chaos and commerce, but also tranquillity and belonging. Self described as “a mix-tape, a fever dream, a love letter dedicated to those cities that I cannot get rid of, to those cities that are all inside of me.”
Touring Australia for the very first time, Kevin Morby will appear at Fairgrounds in stripped-back and solo mode on the intimate Windmill Stage.
Although far from a fitting city scene, we guarantee Morby’s ethereal tunes will sound just as wonderful amongst the natural reverb of the South Coast hinterland.
