Born in Alabama and based in Philadelphia, Waxahatchee is the project of universally acclaimed, heart-on-sleeve songwriter Katie Crutchfield.
Starting her musical genesis at fourteen years old, Crutchfield has morphed from a stalwart of Philly’s D.I.Y underground to one of the most revered voices in contemporary alt-rock, profiled everywhere from Rolling Stone to the New Yorker.
Released in 2016, Waxahatchee’s fourth album ‘Out Of The Storm’ explored autobiographical themes of life, relationships and heartbreak. This September, she will follow it with hotly anticipated solo EP, ‘Great Thunder’, where Crutchfield will take sharp turn away from the more rock-oriented influences of her recent records towards her more folk and country roots.
“I would say that it is a complete 180 from the last record: super stripped-down, quiet, and with me performing solo, it’s a throwback to how I started.”
For Fairgrounds, Waxhatachee will echo this, performing stripped-back and solo on the intimate Windmill Stage
